"Mpower Mental Health LLC was created after my own personal postpartum experience after the birth of my son in 2022. Experiencing postpartum life personally gave me a deeper understanding of just how overwhelming, isolating, and complicated this season can feel, even when you have knowledge, resources, and a strong support system. My background as a licensed clinical social worker, my experience working with families in healthcare settings, my certification as a doula, and my work in bereavement have all shaped the way I approach mental health care but it is my own lived experience that continues to remind me why this work matters." -Maizee

Meet Maizee: The person behind Mpower Mental Health LLC

Maizee earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh, with a focus in Sociology, Anthropology, and Legal Studies. She went on to earn her Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh, along with a certificate in Integrated Healthcare.

Her clinical career began with a fellowship at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she was later hired as a member of the hospital’s social work team. During her time at Children’s, Maizee worked throughout the hospital, including the Emergency Department, where she responded to Level 1 traumas, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). These experiences gave her a strong foundation in crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, family support, and navigating the complexities of healthcare.

Maizee later joined UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, initially working in the outpatient clinic before becoming an inpatient social worker, specifically in the NICU. She supported families navigating high-risk pregnancies, premature and traumatic births, complicated medical experiences, and end of life care. While at Magee, Maizee served on the Bereavement Committee as well as wrote and successfully secured a grant to establish a car seat program, helping provide families with an important resource for their babies.

Maizee is also a certified doula and completed her doula training through Masters of Maternity. In addition to her experience in pediatric and women’s healthcare, Maizee has worked in inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation, supporting individuals as they navigated substance use and recovery.

Maizee is also passionate about education and mentorship. She provides LCSW supervision to social workers seeking clinical licensure as well as professional case consultations to other professionals. She serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Community College of Allegheny County, where she teaches social work courses. She served on the Board of Directors for Pittsburgh Bereavement Doulas from 2024 to 2026.

Maizee is in the process of obtaining her Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International.

Maizee was a nominee for the 2026 Social Worker Appreciation of Greatness (SWAG) award.
